About Juniper
At fourteen, Juniper was delighted at the invitation to support their aunt in labor. This was the first time they’d ever been a part of someone’s birthing experience and it was immediately apparent that this was the work they were called to do. They saw how the presence of community advocates helped promote safety and ignite resilience throughout their aunt’s transformative birth experience, despite the many challenges she’d faced leading up to this point. This memory shapes Juniper’s commitment to reproductive justice and inspires their work towards addressing social inequities in our healthcare system.
Juniper was initially drawn to midwifery practice out of a deep philosophical commitment to providing care that is meaningfully personal to people seeking to become parents. They are dedicated to offering individualized and culturally affirming care that centers people’s unique and diverse experiences in the promotion of health sovereignty. Juniper believes that our communities deserve compassionate and empathetic partners in their care and is committed to better understanding the real-world influences that inform their clients’ needs and desires.
In 2016, Juniper graduated from Bastyr University with a Masters of Science in Midwifery. They are a Licensed Midwife in Washington and currently working on their Doctorate of Nursing at Seattle University. As a community advocate, Juniper serves on two local health boards that promote legislative health agendas in support of anti-racist policy change. In their master’s thesis, Juniper focused their research on identifying barriers to access for African American birthing people encountering the health care system. Through this work, Juniper is committed to highlighting experiences of care that help our communities thrive and they are rooted in practices that affirm this potential.
Juniper has been a midwife for five years and has additional experience in preconception and fertility care. Their clients would describe them as an open and attentive partner in care who prioritizes relationship building and holds space for tenderness.
