About Kate

Kate became a midwife after having worked for over a decade in global midwifery / maternal health as a public health professional. Over her career, she spent time designing STI prevention sessions for sex workers in Bangladesh and led a cross-border midwifery project along the Burmese borders with Thailand and China. Kate also managed large-scale maternal health research and implementation grants in Nigeria, India, and Malawi. Her time representing the Maternal Health team of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at global committees and consortiums made her realize she wanted a more micro-level, personal way to serve the field of midwifery. Being a bedside midwife allows her to work with patients and their families every day during one of the most intimate and exciting times of their lives. In addition to pregnancy-related care, Kate enjoys helping patients become more comfortable with speculum exams and routine screenings, and loves to put in IUDs.

Born in the midwest and raised on cheese and countless hours of competitive swimming, Kate moved to WA state in 2009 after many years wandering around Asia figuring out what she wanted to do with her life. Kate now lives in West Seattle with her husband, two young children, and two cats. When not working, she loves to do art projects with her daughter or dance with her son. She spends time playing backgammon with her husband and enjoys zoning out while gardening or quilting. Kate is a former PeaceCorps volunteer (Bangladesh), Fulbright fellow (Japan), Varney Scholar, and Jonas Nursing Scholar. Kate was also awarded the Provost Award for Graduate Excellence for her doctoral work at Seattle University.

Kate's community describes her as loyal, thoughtful, generous, deeply compassionate, and perhaps a bit *too* organized. Her clients say that she is warm, present, knowledgeable, inclusive, non-judgemental, and deeply dependable.
