About Simon
Simon’s interest in midwifery as a career first started as a young person, when they passed notes to friends in class sharing information about how to access affordable birth control. Their path became more focused later, after attending their best friend’s very fast, accidental home birth. With the first midwife they had ever met on the phone as a steady and reassuring guide, Simon announced, “babies get born, everything is going to be fine!” and went about the business of tenderly supporting their friend as she brought her baby - as well as a new future midwife - into the world.
Through the process of completing their MSN in midwifery at Seattle University, Simon discovered that their true passion lies in bearing witness and offering skilled support to people during times of great transition in their lives. This has included supporting people through abortion, pregnancy, birth, gender affirmation, getting their first pap or STI screening, navigating changes in their sexuality throughout the lifespan, and more.
Simon has been in clinical practice since they graduated in 2012, serving communities in King and Pierce counties. In addition to providing clinical care, they have dedicated themselves to advocating for health equity and access to respectful, excellent midwifery care for all. They were recently awarded the 2021 American College of Nurse Midwives “Excellence in Leadership and Innovation Award” for this work. Clients working with Simon would describe them as welcoming, empathetic and supportive, with a good sense of humor.
